The project “Prepare yourself for life” is financed by the United States´ Department of Labor (DOL), coordinated by IYF (International Youth Foundation) and implemented by CHS Alternativo, CEDRO and Faith and Happiness (Fe y Alegría). Its goal is to improve access for children and adolescents to quality educational opportunities as a method of combating child labor.
The Project began in November 2006 and sought to benefit a total of 10,500 children and adolescents between the ages of 10 and 17 years-old during its four years of implementation. Its zones of intervention are: Lima, Callao, Trujillo and Iquitos.
CHS Alternativo is responsible for the implementation of the project in the city Iquitos, capital of the province Maynas, and specifically in the urban area of the districts San Juan Bautista and Punchana, where it has been carrying out its principal activities.
At this stage, almost two years into the project, CHS Alternativo has achieved a series of advances in each of the four key tactics that the program utilizes to tackle the problem of child labor and its worst forms in Iquitos: raising awareness, prevention, rescue, and sustainability.
